Information Services & Adult Programming

WWPL's Information and Reference Services Department offers a variety of programs, classes and materials. There are two book discussion groups that meet once a month as well as an online book club accessible anytime. The outreach program serves two local retirement communities and the homebound. The literacy program offers English as a Second Language (ESL) for all ages with skilled tutors and convenient class meeting times.


New Classes

Intro to ebooks: With the explosion of e-readers such as the Nook, Kindle, iPad and all the various apps to use with them, you may want to try the free books the library has to download to your reading device. "Intro to E-Books" is a new class offered on Thursday, March 15, at 3 p.m., on how to search for, download and read e-books for free from the library website! Contact Information/Reference Services at 317-896-9391to register for this free class, and be sure to bring along your reader!

Facebook Fundamentals: Want to get started on Facebook? Already have a Facebook account but not sure what to do next? Come to "Facebook Fundamentals," a class for beginners that teaches you to set up your page, manage privacy settings, and connect with friends and family! Learn to update your status and add a photo, all while you interact with others online. An email address is required to register for Facebook, but the class is free and is offered on Tuesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited, so please register by calling Information/Reference Services at 317-896-9391.

 

New Reference Material


We have acquired a current copy of Solutions: a Central Indiana Resource Guide for Seniors, Persons with Disabilities and Family Caregivers by CICOA Aging and In-home Solutions. CICOA serves Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan and Shelby counties. CICOA's mission is to help older persons and those of any age with a disability to live with greatest possible independence, dignity and quality of life.

The Basic Needs section of the guide includes programs that furnish survival level resources including food, housing, material goods, transportation and utilities for individuals with low or fixed incomes, people who are homeless, older adults and/or people with disabilities who are otherwise unable to adequately provide for themselves and their families. It also included related services that are available to the community at large. Other sections are Consumer Services, Education & Enrichment, Health Care, Income Support, Individual & Family Life, Legal Services, Mental Health & Substance Abuse, Organizational/Community Services, Country Senior Services, and Caregiver Services.

ESL Classes

Do you know someone who would like to learn English as a second language? WWPL offers free classes for levels of speakers from beginning to advanced. Fill out this registration form and bring it to the library or stop by to fill one out. Registration form in Espanol.


Euchre Group

The Westfield Washington Public Library Euchre Group the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Come and enjoy a relaxing evening of fun with some great people at this free program. Starts @ 5:30PM.

Genealogy Group

Join the Westfield Genealogy Club on Saturday, 03/03 @10:15AM and share ideas, new Web sites and sources about family history, as well as meet some terrific people. The club meets the first Saturday of every month in the Sumner Room, and all genealogists are welcome to become members.
